The exhibition “Can we eat trees?” by local artist Adam Kemp will open at the Third Street Gallery on Kittson in Grand Forks on Thursday, November 20, 2008. The exhibition will kick off with a free, public Artist Reception from 7 – 9 pm and run from Nov. 20 until Dec. 23. This exhibition will feature new works by the artist in both painting and sculpture. The works are an exciting collection of small and large scale paintings with the vibrancy and playfulness that is truly a pleasure to experience. “Kemp has been working on a new series of the courthouse that is a personal favorite of mine,” states Co-Director, Becky Uglem. Kemp’s work can be seen around Grand Forks in the Ina Mae Rude Entrepreneur Center, the UND International Center, The Toasted Frog, and Sanders 1907. He was commissioned to work on the Hotel Donaldson in Fargo and the restaurant 10 North Main in Minot. Various works by Kemp can be found in numerous private collections around the region as well. When asked about the work in the exhibition Kemp states, “I finally managed to get back into some kind of rhythm with this work.” The rhythm can be seen through his various themes and locations he has documented in the paintings. “I owe a thanks to my wife Tonja. It has been the kind of support that is easy taken for granted. Without her many of the pieces would not have been created.” Stop by the Third Street Gallery on Kittson on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008 from 7-9 pm to meet the artist and enjoy an evening of creativity and fun. The work will be up for viewing until Dec. 23, 2008.
